10. Trigger Point Injections (TPI)

Objective: Trigger point injections (TPI) de-activate painful knots of muscle—along with associated nerve irritations—with corticosteroid and other local anesthetics.

Symptoms: tight muscles (detectable to the touch) and/or surrounding nerve irritations.

Indicated For: Muscle groups in the arms, legs, lower back, and neck. Also good for fibromyalgia and tension headaches. Might treat myofascial pain syndrome (chronic pain of the tissue surrounding your muscles), although this is still under study.

Treatment Procedure: We can inject several sites in one visit, and each one takes just a few minutes. If you are allergic to the anesthetic, we can use a dry-needle technique that involves no medication.

Anticipated Relief: Usually sustained.
